Dubrovnik, Croatia

Standing on the new bridge over looking the port. Our ship is in the background. We can officially say we've been to Croatia. The poor country is so pretty, yet still so scared from the war that happened there in the early 90's.

Our cruise stopped in Dubrovnik which has an "old town" that is really nice. The city walls still stand all around it. The old city wasn't protected from the bombing during the war, but they have built it back up and you can hardly tell the new from the old. It was done very well. Bosnia is just over the ridge, so the mountains you see around Dubrovnik are part of Bosnia.

one of the public water fountains. People fill their water bottles here.

Instead of a guided tour, we just hired a taxi driver to take us all around and show us some of the outlying towns. He spoke English well and was very proud of Dubrovnik and all they had accomplished in their rebuild. The new bridge is all the talk. He stopped in all the good places and took our photo. We asked him to drive us to a nearby town that is world famous for it's oysters, but they must have been out of season, because we didn't see any advertised at the lunch places by the sea. He dropped us off for about an hour to enjoy the beach and then came back to get us to resume our tour.
The absolutely clear water at the beach. We saw some of the biggest, fanciest, most unbelievable, posh, expensive yachts ever while we were in Croatia. Just made your jaw drop.

Bomb damage that is still visible today. This is a former resort hotel. Standing abandoned.

The Old City within the city walls

walking the streets of Old Town. This was at the end of the day and B is like a horse headed back to the stable. She had a mission to get back to the boat and actually walked PAST a souvenir shop. This is proof!
